Looking back from a point in the future.
By 2029, I will have completed my certification.
Você vê a certificação pronta. Foco no resultado.
By 2029, I will have been studying English for five years.
| English | Português |
|---|---|
| By Friday, I will have submitted the proposal. | Até sexta, eu terei enviado a proposta. |
| The team will have finished the audit by then. | O time terá terminado a auditoria a essa altura. |
| We won't have received the data by Monday. |
| Will you have finished by five? | Você terá terminado até as cinco? |
Respostas curtas: Yes, I will. / No, I won't.
| English | Português |
|---|---|
| By March, she will have been managing the team for two years. |
| Next month, I will have been working here for a decade. | Mês que vem, farão dez anos que trabalho aqui. |
| Will you have been travelling for six weeks by then? |
By December, I will have written forty reports. Quantidade pronta, então perfect.
By December, I will have been writing reports for six months. Período com for, então continuous.
A regra prática: número de coisas concluídas puxa o perfect, período de tempo puxa o continuous.
Depois de by the time, before, when e as soon as, o inglês não usa will. O verbo fica no presente simples, mesmo falando do futuro.
By the time she will arrive, we will have started.
By the time she arrives, we will have started.
Verbos de estado (be, know, have, own) não entram no continuous. By June, I will have known her for ten years.
A passiva é muito comum em relatório: The contract will have been signed by Friday.
Five exercises. Write your answers in your notebook first, then check.
Complete with the future perfect or the future perfect continuous. Choose the one that fits the meaning.
1. will have opened (resultado concluído)
2. will have been leading (duração até aquele ponto)
3. won't have finished (negativa, resultado)
4. will have prepared (repare no arrives, sem will)
5. will have been travelling (duração, com for)
Join the two ideas using by the time. Keep the tenses correct.
1. By the time the meeting starts, I will have finished the slides.
2. By the time she gets back from her trip, we will have signed the contract.
3. By the time the audit begins, we will have cleared the backlog.
4. By the time you read this e-mail, I will have sent the files.
5. By the time the new manager joins, the handover will have been completed. (também aceita: we will have completed the handover)
Choose the correct option and click to see the feedback.
1. By the end of this month, she for the company for exactly five years.
2. By the time you the office, we will have made the decision.
3. The report before the board meeting starts.
4. In September, I my current manager for six years.
5. " the invoices by Friday?" "No, we won't. We need more time."
Each sentence has one mistake. Find it and correct it.
1. we will have opened five new stores. Não misture "have been" com particípio de ação concluída.
2. By the time the audit starts, we will have submitted everything. Sem will depois de "by the time".
3. She will have been in the role for two years in March. "Be" é verbo de estado.
4. ... leading this project for eight months. Período de duração pede "for", não "since".
5. Will you have finished the handover before your last day? Depois de "have", particípio.
Write the question that produces each answer. Use the future perfect or the future perfect continuous.
1. How many clients will we have onboarded by the end of the quarter?
2. Will you have sent the deck before the call?
3. How long will she have been managing the branch by August?
4. Will they have received the feedback by Monday?
5. How many countries will the company have expanded to by 2030?
Talk for one to two minutes about where you will be professionally three years from now. Use at least four sentences in the future perfect and two in the future perfect continuous.
What will you have achieved professionally by then? Think about qualifications, promotions, projects, or clients.
How long will you have been working in your field, in your company, or with English by that point?
What will you have changed about the way you work? What will you have stopped doing?
What will you probably not have done yet, even three years from now? Be honest.

Three years from now, in 2029, I will have completed my leadership certification and I will have taken over at least one international account. By then, I will have been working in this company for nine years, which honestly surprises me when I say it out loud. I will have moved away from operational tasks, so I will have stopped doing most of the reporting myself. My English will have improved to the point where I no longer rehearse before a call. What I probably won't have done is relocate. That's a decision I will have been postponing for years, and I don't think three years is enough to change my mind.
Post in the community and reply to two colleagues.
Write three or four sentences about one thing you will have accomplished by the end of this year. Then read two posts from other students and reply with a question in the future perfect.
By the end of December, I will have presented in English to my regional team at least twice. I've been avoiding it for two years, so by then I will have been putting it off for far too long. I won't have perfect grammar, but I will have done it.
You are leading a project that ends in three months. Write an e-mail of 120 to 160 words to your director with a status update and a projection of what will be done by the deadline.
| Paragraph | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| 1. Where we are | One or two sentences on current status. Use the present perfect: We have completed the first phase. |
| 2. What will be done by the deadline | Three projections in the future perfect. Include one passive: All deliverables will have been approved by... |
| 3. The honest part | One thing that won't have been finished, and why. Add one future perfect continuous: By then, the team will have been running two systems in parallel for six weeks. |
| 4. Close | One sentence offering a meeting or the next update. |

Dear Renata,
A quick update on the CRM migration. We have completed the data audit and we have trained the first two teams, so we are on track against the original plan.
By the deadline in November, we will have migrated all four regions and we will have run three full tests with live data. All user guides will have been approved by the compliance team before the launch date, and the support team will have received their final training two weeks in advance.
One point I want to flag early: we will not have decommissioned the old system by November. By then, the team will have been running both platforms in parallel for about six weeks, and I would rather extend that than rush the shutdown.
Happy to walk you through the timeline whenever it works for you.
Best regards,
Camila
